After 7 years since the original IoTeX whitepaper, 2.0 upgrades IoTeX from a Layer 1 public chain to an open, modular DePIN platform.

IoTeX 2.0 delivers a clear and actionable DePIN tech stack, coupled with a practical business roadmap, aiming to onboard 100 million devices and unlock trillions of dollars in real-world value on the blockchain within the next 3-5 years.

With composable modules tailor fit for any build, IoTeX 2.0 catalyzes DePIN adoption by drastically cutting down build time, costs, and resources needed to go to market.

IoTeX 2.0 incorporates a new modular platform design, updated tokenomics, the modular security pool, public goods, and more to address the growing needs of DePIN builders.

Key Components of IoTeX 2.0

So, what makes up this new and improved IoTeX? Let’s break it down:

  1. DePIN Infrastructure Modules (DIMs): These modules cover the entire DePIN tech stack, from hardware abstraction and connectivity to off-chain computing and storage. IoTeX's core development team provides in-house implementations for several layers, while other DIMs are developed by partners and builders who stake IOTX to the MSP.
  2. Modular Security Pool (MSP): The MSP is a unified, trusted layer supported by IOTX and other mainstream assets. It acts as a security anchor for the entire network, providing trust and stability to all activities within the DePIN infrastructure modules (DIM) and Dapp/L2 layers. DIM providers can join the MSP by staking IOTX, and their states are periodically anchored to the IoTeX L1 blockchain.
  3. Public Goods: IoTeX 2.0 emphasizes open-source resources that anyone can use and integrate. These public goods include user-facing tools (e.g. DePINscan explorer, ioPay DePIN wallet, ioTube bridge) developer tools (e.g. IDEs), and network-wide resources (e.g. governance, funding).
  4. Meritocratic Tokenomics: IoTeX 2.0 introduces new utilities for the IOTX token, linking it to various DIMs such as W3bstream, ioID, and ioDDK. The  token's utility is expanded across the network, ensuring that rewards are distributed based on the value added by different stakeholders. IOTX will be the foundational currency of the DePIN sector.
  5. DePIN Dapps & L2s: At the top of the tech stack, IoTeX 2.0 supports an ecosystem of DePIN Dapps and L2s that leverage various DIMs. Our infrastructure is designed to support all DePINs, across any vertical. The IoTeX DePIN ecosystem will be a diverse use-case landscape connecting hundreds of millions of devices.

Together, these components make up the only complete modular infrastructure for DePIN, supporting DePIN projects throughout the entire project life cycle.
