IoTeX Halo Grants Program — Fueling the Internet of Trusted Things

This is Part 3 of IoTeX’s Mainnet GA announcements. Throughout May 2020, we will share other components of Mainnet GA, including new tokenomics, governance, and technology. For more on Mainnet GA, visit the IoTeX Forum.

IoTeX Halo Grants Program — Fueling the Internet of Trusted Things

Welcome to Halo!

With the upcoming launch of Mainnet GA, the IoTeX platform will be more performant and developer-friendly than ever. The past two years of focused development have all led to this exciting milestone — we are now ready to welcome the world to build the Internet of Trusted Things on IoTeX.

To fuel community development and contributions, we are proud to launch Halo, the official grants program for the IoTeX Network. Halo is targeted at developers interested in building IoT and privacy-related projects on the IoTeX platform, as well as ecosystem builders that want to expand the capabilities and reach of IoTeX. Halo will pave the way for new trusted devices/applications and fuel the next generation of IoTeX — join us!

How the Halo Program Works

The Halo Program provides funding and technical support to empower projects that benefit the IoTeX ecosystem. For now, the IoTeX Foundation will serve as the Halo Committee to manage grants. In the future, community leaders, project advisors, and external parties may be invited to diversify and join the Halo Committee. At a high level, there are two types of Halo grants that the IoTeX community can apply for: open-ended proposals (OEP) & requests for proposals (RFP).

Open-ended Proposals (OEP)

Interested in building a new project on IoTeX? Pitch us your idea! With Halo, you can drive your OEP to completion with funding and hands-on technical support from the IoTeX Foundation. At a minimum, approved OEPs will receive a grant of ≥1.2 million IOTX, which will allow them to become a Delegate and help maintain the IoTeX Network. The IoTeX community will be able to support OEP projects by voting for the Delegate and/or donating directly IOTX to the project. For OEPs, the IoTeX Foundation will work closely to provide technical guidance and consulting to bring the project to life!

Request for Proposals (RFP)

Claim projects from a “wishlist” that have a defined scope of work and funding limit. Applicants will complete an RFP detailing their team and plans to complete the project (e.g., timeline, deliverables, budget). Although technical support can be provided by request, those submitting an RFP should have prior experience building similar projects. Based on the size/complexity of the project, grant funding may be delivered in incremental payments after specific milestones are met or in-full after completion of the project. In some instances, multiple teams may work on the same RFP.

How to Apply for a Halo Grant

Halo is not only meant for technical developers — it is also meant for non-technical community members that want to launch formal programs or tools to spread the word about IoTeX! By simultaneously fueling the development of new IoTeX technologies and driving global engagement, Halo will propel the IoTeX Network to the next level. Here are some sample proposal ideas below, but don’t limit yourself — we want to see your creativity!

  • Technical: new devices/Dapps, extensions for “Powered by IoTeX” products (e.g., Ucam, Pebble), developer tools (e.g., IDE, SDK), ecosystem tools (e.g., wallets, explorer, DEX), and decentralized products
  • Non-technical: educational materials (e.g., programs, videos), international marketing (e.g., campaigns, local meetups), and community tools/programs to drive community discussion and engagement

About IoTeX

Founded as an open source platform in 2017, IoTeX is building the Internet of Trusted Things, an open ecosystem where all “things” — humans, machines, businesses, and DApps — can interact with trust and privacy. Backed by a global team of 30+ top research scientists and engineers, IoTeX combines blockchain, secure hardware, and confidential computing to enable next-gen IoT devices, networks, and economies. IoTeX will empower the future decentralized economy by “connecting the physical world, block by block”.
